Question:
Assalamualaikum,
Why is it that in the Hanafi Madhab a free woman is
raising her hands in Salah (in the first Takbeer) upto her breast while a
slave woman must raise her hands like a male (upto the ears?

Answer: Fatwaa no. 011/07
The reason for this is because the "AWRAT" (parts which have to be covered) of a free woman is higher than that of a slave woman. Thus by a free woman raising her hands to her breasts she covers more of her "AWRAT" than a slave woman.
