Question: Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu Is it allowed for a Muslim to work in a Police Department in a non-Muslim country? Please answer with proofs.
Answer: Fatwaa no. 128/07
The laws in a non Muslim country are usually in conflict with those of Islam. There are in fact, certain laws which are in direct conflict with the ordinates of Islam. The responsibility of the police is to enforce the law. Therefore it is not advisable for a Muslim to work as a policeman in a non Muslim country. If however he is assigned to such duties that do not conflict with the Shari'ah, it will be permissible for a Muslim to work as a policeman in a non Muslim country. If this police man can be an added assistance to the Muslim community and is in a position of keeping trouble away from the Muslims and intends all this then he will be rewarded as well. Insha Allah.
